Bi-weekly column [in SHAPE fitness & more]: To change your body, youmust first change your mind

How many times have you decided to start working out, if it’s either in a gym, with friends or at home? But somehow you never seem to really get to that point? Maybe it’s time for you to seriously think about where the problem lays. It’s called MINDSHIFT.

Now, what does mindshift mean? Your focus should not only be your goal or how to achieve it, referring to losing weight. Your mind has a very important role in the process. You need to make sure that what you know about the benefits of exercising (the facts) is on the same level as your subconscious. Meaning you need to start changing the way you’ve been thinking and approaching your goal, you need to be ready!

Everybody has different goals as to why they want to start working out. The most common reasons are to lose weight and getting in shape. Going to the gym is not the only solution. You also need to change your lifestyle. Anybody can join a gym, but you still need to get into your car and go there. You need to grow beyond your life-long habits, because they didn’t gave you the body you’ve been dreaming of. So first things first: Set your goal, put your mind to it and try not to give up! If you really really want something, nothing should stand in your way, right? So what is your goal? And what would you like to change?

Once you know what you want, you are on the right path. You’ve got that picture of the perfect body with your head attached to it, you know which gym you want to join and nothing stands in your way……… Except for that tasty Saoto soup, Popeye chicken and Roti.

Habits related to food is the fundamental key to overcoming weight issues. Like we said earlier you need to change your lifestyle. To get the perfect body, eating healthy is crucial because what you choose to consume is just as important as choosing the best training for your body. We’re not saying you can’t enjoy certain meals. In fact, acting on your cravings is something you have to do ones in a while so your body is used to recognizing the not so healthy stuff, if you know what I mean.

In our next blog we’re going to talk about how to find a gym or sportscentre that fits you. What’s important? How can you recognize a good gym?
